Maximum 80% level on any light

#1

To extend lifetime on led lights, it is smart to adjust level to 80% or less.
This piston sets any light down to 80% if i enters a level above limit.
Easy to adjust, and can be used for other stuff also.
Simple piston that does the trick.

Dimmer brightness over-triggering

Hadn’t realised that it was recommended to use 80% brightness with LED. This is quite useful on those occasions with Hue when the physical switch is turned off and then turned back on. Would this work in that instance?

#3

Sure would work the same way no mater where you adjust the level, or if they go on to 100% by default. Reason for extending life is due to redused temperature innside the bulb.
Read somewhere that you extend by somewhat 100% by never run them over 80%
As soon as the level is reported to ST to be more than 80, it automaticly adjust that light down to the level you set.

And you’re probably not going to see much difference in brightness between 80 and 100% on an LED anyway.

I think I’m going to give this a whirl.

Tried this but I’m getting the following error…

An error occurred while executing the event: groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: physicalgraph.app.LocationWrapper.hasCommand() is applicable for argument types: (java.lang.String) values: [log]

I tried this and it seems to be triggering even when I try setting the bulb to < 80%

+1 on the new java error

I had the same issue. I has some of my lights set higher than 80 but were turned off. The piston will trigger when any of the lights are set higher than 80 (whether they are on or off). Therefor the one I was changing to 20% jumped to 80%.
