Pass value from custom smartapp to webcore

Did you ever get yours to work the way you wanted? I am trying to figure out how to pass some variables from my smartapp to my webcore piston but am not having any luck. I added the code from @ady624 in this link (https://community.smartthings.com/t/webcore-connector-two-way-webcore-integration-framework-for-developers/89613/6) word for word. Do you have to modify it somehow? I know he mentions passing variables and I tried some things but no luck…any help would be appreciated.
