Sonos is not resuming, am I missing something in my piston?

Unfortunately, no. See my comments here.
I am hopeful that when Sonos releases its updated API in 2018 it might be possible to address these issues.

I did put a pause statement prior to text to speach, when I did this the resume seemed to work for Spotify.

Yes, I’ve had some success doing that as well. It’s still inconsistent for me, but depending on who is listening and where, we may play music and other audio simultaneously from a variety of sources. Glad you got it working for you.
