Am i blind? (i feel like i must be)

I am new to smart things and over the first few days moved from the base app, to CoRE to WebCoRE. With the power of WebCoRE I expect it to be more complicated-but I’m finding it difficult to get started. I did look through the Wiki and try to find posts about getting started but it is pretty thin-with most everything marked as Depricated-and fear information in those threads is no longer accurate.

Can’t cut/paste examples then edit them-and I’m having trouble duplicating the code blocks through trial and error of clicking through the options. I was working on presence and was stuck because I didn’t realize I needed to add my phone as a presence sensor in the IDE. Am close to getting that working(ihope). I got sidetracked in the examples in the wiki trying to make Tiles work. I can’t find any getting started information for Tiles-and can’t replicate the weather example piston that is presented (yet). Can someone point me to a How To for tiles/dashboard?

Finally, I find this forum style of endlessly long freeform threads about how to design Pistons very difficult to cull useful information out of. There are nuggets scattered but finding them is tough. I’m new here and will try to adjust but so far I think it would be much easier to find answers in discrete threads in a standard forum.

There is certainly a learning curve with webcore. It is something that can be overcome by just messing around with it.

The threads on the SmartThings community board are marked deprecated because of this new forum. A lot of this information is still good but we are trying to get people to this forum to help them easier. Individual threads are easier to follow and help.

If you are referring to not being able to import other people’s pistons then use the restore option and then you can add their examples.

What are you referring to when you talk about adding your phone as a presence sensor? The new webcore app? This is still in beta. You should probably wait until you are more comfortable with webcore before taking that jump.

This new forum is the solution to the endlessly long threads from the old forum.

ST, Core, and WebCoRE, among other things surrounding them, can be daunting. Luckily, the people in this forum are extremely helpful, so stick with it…I’m still trying to figure out what I am doing, but as c1arkbar indicated, a lot of it is trial and error.

What I am realizing is that I should have moved over to WebCoRE sooner than I had. I’m absolutely amazed how powerful it is and find when I blame “it” for not working, it was the way I programmed it that caused it not to work.

Have fun.
