Best way to turn hue lights to specific level and color fro OFF

#1

Hi,

This is a very simple question. I’m trying to turn on some hue lights at night if motion is detected.
I would like the lights to turn on a dim red.

The problem I’m having is that the lights flash bright then change color then change level of brightness and is noticeable when they do this, specially the first time. I would like to just turn the lights dim to avoid startling a night walker.

This is the first of, I hope, many pistons I would be creating for my home.

Thanks for all your help!

98% of the bulbs out there return to their previous state when first turned on. Any level adjustments or color changes happens a moment later. You can prevent the startling bright light a few ways.

(1) Your “turn off” block can set the level low before turning off
(2) Your “Good Night” piston can set the level low and then turn it off
(3) You can create a daily piston at (let’s say) 11PM to lower the light

All three of these ideas are basically to prepare the bulb to a low level before you stumble in there in the middle of the night and get blinded.

Thanks so I’m not doing anything wrong
I will try the routine to turn the level low before midnight then an “on” command would just work.
Thanks!
