Changing Device Names in Smartthings

#1

Hi All,

If I change a device name in Smartthings, will it automatically update all my pistons and global variables I might have set?

i.e. if I change ‘Motion Sensor 1’ to ‘Kitchen Sensor’, and Motion Sensor 1 was within global variable ‘All Motion Sensors’, do I need to go and update everything or will it follow through automatically?

Thank you!!

The names will be updated automatically. But should you have the WC dashboard open, you will need to do a hard reload to reflect the changes there.

#3

What’s a hard reload please?

#4

In chrome - Hold down Ctrl and click the Reload button. Or, Hold down Ctrl and press F5

#5

Interesting. I didn’t know it was different to a normal refresh

#6

I don’t think this works for me. I moved 5 months ago and I was just fixing some piston issues yesterday where the name didn’t match. Maybe I’m confused though

#7

What do you mean by - moved 5 months ago?

#8

Sorry, I moved to a new house 5 months and renamed some ST devices, but just noticed some of my pistons weren’t working because of name issues. WebCoRE recognized the old names were invalid once I was in the piston editor.

#9

Did you see xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in place of the device names?

#10

I believe you may need to go in to the webCoRE SmartApp in the ST mobile app and navigate to Settings -> Available devices and contacts -> Available devices and then hit Done / Back / Done / Save just as if you were adding the device the first time to WC. I think this causes a refresh.

#11

I think so. Memory is getting fuzzy, that was like 24 hours ago

#12

Sounds to me that perhaps your devices got disconnected from the move

Refreshing your browser doesn’t do anything to the WebCORE device database. Nezmo’s suggestion is what worked for me. Or you can just wait a while and it will update on it’s own.
