Checking status of a device every 30min to make sure its online?

1) Give a description of the problem
I have a water pump thats on 24hrs a day and its for my lettuce hydroponics nft system. today it was off for about 2hrs before i noticed it. I have a smartthings alert setup if wattage drops below 20watts to alert me but i guess since the power was out it didnt report wattage drop and i didnt get notified. had i not caught it on time by checking on them all my plants would of died :frowning:

2) What is the expected behaviour?
I am wondering if there is a way to use webcore to poll/ping/devicehealth or anything say every 30 or 15 min to make sure said device is online and working and if it fails said test then to notify me via sms

3) What is happening/not happening?
I know i can create a piston based on $status changes to ‘OFFLINE’ but this would depend on smartthings reporting the device is offline and im not even sure at what interval smartthings checks or device health. I do not want to depend on smartthings and want to be able to set a manual timer to check on the device, say to poll it ping it something every x min and report back to me if no response or reply.

I am hopeful that someone can guide me on how to create such a piston as this is crucial for me and my plants.

Hmm if you have another device you can test with, you can unplug it and see how long before $status reports as offline. Like you mentioned you can set up a piston to log $status or send a push when it starts reporting OFFLINE.
