Control Radiator Valves and Thermostat using WebCoRE

#1

1) Give a description of the problem
I just bought 3 radiator valves to use alongside my Smart Thermostat. I currently have the whole home temperature is set based on the temperature of where the thermostat is. Can someone share an example piston where you use the thermostat with multiple radiator valves?

2) What is the expected behavior?
Basically, I will be installing 2 radiator valves upstairs and 1 on the radiator downstairs in the same room as the room Thermostat. When I want to heat upstairs, I want that to happen even if the downstairs is already at the desired temperature. So that means the downstairs radiator valve has to be turned off, the upstarts are to be turned on and setting the thermostat to a higher temperature.

I started to configure this today for myself. I’m using a Nest thermostat and Tado valves.

My use case: We use a woodstove to heat the house in the winter. However, the Nest is located in that same room. So I get complains from my children their bedroom is too cold.

My solution:
Tado valves on downstairs radiators and the radiators in the bedrooms.

I created a core piston: Nest temp is greater than or equal = 23°c AND room temp (desired room) is less than 20°C then using nest -> set to heat and using downstairs set to off.

This way radiators downstairs give no heat (not needed because of the woodstove) and the rooms upstairs heat up. I still need it to turn off at the desired temp in TADO. But this can get us started.

I have made some progress and included heating controls to set radiator valves to specific temperatures in my good night, good morning, I’m back and good bye routines.

I have created two pistons as below.

What I want to do is to set hive thermostat to 25, so that it keeps the boiler on when ever any of the radiator valves are set to temperatures above 13.
I want the thermostat to turn off as soon as the temperature on all the radiator valves reaches the desired temperature.
Is the above logic correct? I did a quick test by setting one of the radiator valve to 22 degrees and the remaining ones remained at 12. I was expecting hive to change to 25 but it didn’t.
I then tried to bring all the valves to 12, again this didn’t change hive to 7 as I set it up in the piston. What am I doing wrong?

Update: I was able to get the first piston working by changing “setpoint” to “heating setpoint”. The second one still doesn’t work.

Do these Tado radstats work direct with ST?

I have Hive heating and would like to add radstats to do exactly what you are doing, we currently find the front room gets too warm and the bedroom not warm enough so having the ability to switch off the radiator in the front room would be great
