hello, everyone, the cold weather is coming, so do you have any suggestions or good idea Heating Cost Saving Piston for the winter base on outside temperature or presence sensor
thanks for sharing
Heatting Cost Saving piston
Which type(s) of heating do you have (e.g. natural gas, oil, propane, geothermal, boiler, mini split, heat pump, baseboards, etc)? Does your utility company price differently at peak hours?
I won’t be very helpful here because my heating is most efficient with no more than a 2º F setpoint range throughout the day and my electricity rate per kWh is fixed. For me, improving insulation and reducing air leaks are the best way to save money on heating and cooling.
I agree with you the most important is the insulation of the House, but still, the way you set up your thermostat
I do have (HVAC) heating using natural gas, controlling by Touchscreen Smart Thermostat - RTH9580WFthermostat
do you have any suggestion
heres what i use to set the cooling point in summer:
if outside temp <= 75 or everyone is away turn cooling off
if outside temp > 75 && <= 80 set cooling point to 74
if outside temp > 80 && <= 90 set cooling point to 73
if outside temp > 90 && <= 100 set cooling point to 72
if outside temp > 100 set cooling point to 71
and in winter heres what heating looks like:
if outside temp < 45 set heating point to 68
if outside temp >= 45 && < 55 set heating point to 67
if outside temp >= 55 && < 65 set heating point to 66
if outside temp >= 65 && < 75 set heating point to 65
if outside temp >= 75 or everyone is away turn off heating
makes a significant difference in the energy cost here in california. theres a bunch of other stuff i do but thats more complicated this is where i had started.
summer I like to keep it 78 degrees
Setting the thermostat too high when it is cold outside is the equivalent of tossing money out of the window.
Winter here what heating looks like:
if there are people at home
thermostats between 68 to 72 degrees
Night Time and Away Temperature 58 to 62 degrees
