How do you add another person's phone for presence detection

#1

1) Give a description of the problem
I want to add my girlfriend’s iPhone into webcore to be used as a presence monitor.

I’m pretty unsure how to get that to work and I’ve searched through here and reddit, et al. Perhaps I already missed some good instructions somewhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t use presence sensors in webcore but…
Add it to Smartthings first : Instructions here
Then you should be able to use it in webcore.

You have setup webcore and the webcore presence app (you can find the tutorial here on the forum) on her phone just like you did on your phone. There is no difference in the setup except for one thing and it’s the most important if you want to be able to see it on your phone: you have to use your webcore login info on both setups. If you make a different account/password for her then it will never show on your webcore.

Thanks - I have her already signed up for a samsung account, and I have sent her an invite to my home location (she can see the devices, etc.) and got the location set up to always be available.

@DJslurp - I don’t use the webcore presence on my android, but is that the only way to get her phone to show up in webcore?

@bigalpha If you want her to show up in webcore it will have to installed on her phone once that is complete her phone will show as a device on the smartthings app

#6

@bigalpha or you could not use webcore altogether and just enable the get location from this phone settings inside the smartthings app on her phone. Totally your preference

I’ve enabled the “get location from this phone” in the new app, but don’t see my phone. In the old app, I can see my phone. Could this be because I have not accepted the migrate option in the old app? I assume once added, you’d then need to go into the webcore settings and give webcore access.

I’m trying to get used to the new app before I migrate, as it seems to be one way.

I’m also curious about the icons above the master bedroom on your screenshot, they look like favourites, but I can’t see how to create anything there.

Those are just scenes. I’ve rearranged where things are located on that screen is all.

And now that you say that I had forgotten that presence doesn’t show up like the old app if you just use get location from phone. My bad! That way never really worked great for me so I switched to webcore and haven’t looked back works perfectly. That’s the presence icons you see in the screen shot

Thanks, I’ve set some up. I was a bit thrown by them being called scenes, macros would be a better name.

I’m not sure how well the presence sensing works, in the old app I have my iphone showing 3 times. (2 present & 1 away?) I’m also using webcore & life360 which both show up in the new app. The ability of webcore to identify different locations can be useful too.

Yikes why are you using all 3 if you don’t mind me asking. Personally I think you’re asking for trouble and run the risk of false or inaccurate reading using all three at the same time. IMHO use all 3 like you are, decide which one works best for your needs and ditch the others.

Webcore is the only one that is pretty flawless. And you can get so fine tuned in your automations bc of the settings you can chose. But if it works for you and it’s not a headache rock it! Much love!

If 1 is showing away it’s possible that it hasnt polled yet like I said above just pick one and use that

#12

I’m not using all 3! I don’t know why I have 3. I wonder if its from changing the phone and/or restoring the phone. Hopefully I’ll be able to tidy them up when I stop using the classic app and delete it.

I only use the webcore sensor in any of my pistons.

Just looking at the history of the 3, one has no recent activity, one has no activity for about 4 days, and the one saying I’m away (which I’m not) says I arrived then left at the same time, which was the time I arrived. So goes to prove… use the webcore sensor!

#13

Oh then just go in the IDE and clean up and non used groovy apps (smart apps) and unused devices

Thanks everyone! I’m currently trying to figure out why my webcore instance is broken, but I’m going to probably use the webcore presence sensor as it sounds better!
