This works but I need to set a time limit on recording the acceleration

I once hacked a washing machine directly, taking a signal directly from the lock mechanism… I used a dumb latching relay to turn the 12v lock feed to dry-contact, then soldered across the reed switch on a cheap Xiaomi contact sensor.

When the washing machine lock released, the contact sensor showed as open.

Acceleration sensors miss a lot of events / hard to programme for.

My machine for example changes the number of final spins based on the load / amount of soap used / water hardness.
