Incrementally set thermostat (Honeywell 8000 w/ heat pump)

#1
  1. Give a description of the problem
I recently had a heat pump installed with an oil backup heat on a honeywell 8000 thermostat. I am trying to create a piston to help ramp up the temperature in my house gradually, maximizing the usage of the heat pump instead of the oil (if temperature is increased on the thermostat by more than 2 degrees, it switches from heat pump to EMfuel/oil.)

  2. What is the expected behavior?
-Store current temp as integer (temp)
-Store current set point as integer (SP)
-Raise set point by 1 degree F
-When current temp = temp+1, set current temp as +1.
    -Repeat until temperature = SP
-Resume program (ie follow existing schedule)

3) What is happening/not happening?
Need to figure out how to start! I didn’t get far.
