2) What is the expected behavior?
(MP3 would play then text would speak

BUMP anyone take a guess

#3

Can you play the mp3 file if you paste the URL in a browser?

#4

Yes, and I also did a test using Smart Rules and it played.

#5

Have you tried just a simple piston with just a trigger and play track? This is a little tough one to troubleshoot since we don’t have the same setup. I play an mp3 track but it’s local to the raspberry pi where vlcthing is running.

#6

Yes no sound.

#7

Got logs for that?

#8

No.

#9

That’d be helpful also maybe even some live logging info from IDE, it’d probably help find out where the issue is.

#10

OK will make another Piston and send the logs.

#11

OK lets put this on hold. It worked with simple Piston. Now I will check my original piston.

#12

OK the Piston logging in IDE shows the MP3 played on the speaker, but I didn’t hear anything.

Found the problem, but I am at a loss. If I set the volume in the Piston it doesn’t play. If I remove the volume value it plays, but way to loud. If I remove the volume it plays then after the text plays a song from my playlist from Samsung Multiroom player starts playing. How can I control the volume as the chime is way to loud and my wife will kill me, and stop the music? I changed the piston to play text and not resume. I hope that will stop the music.

Here is the latest Piston and my troubleshooting:

  1. If I add volume control for the MP3 either using Play track and a value or Play Track at volume, the MP3 doesn’t play but Text does.
  2. I have turned off play text and resume as it was playing music after the text was spoken.
  3. I lowered volume on original MP3 using Audicity, but that didn’t help
So I am at a loss now as I have to lower the volume for the MP3 file as my wife will kill me. Please take a look and maybe come up with a solution.

I think your best bet is to post what kind of media player you’re using as it sounds like that may be where the issue is. This way someone with the same gear might be able to give some input.

#16

My Speakers are Samsung Radius R1 speakers. They install directly from St marketplace.

#17

All fixed. I found a new MP3 edited the volume and the duration in Audacity, saved as new MP3 added the 2 second delay. Now the chime sounds as the door opens and speaks the welcome text. Thanks @eibyer

With the Speak text and resume…action, is the volume value a 1-10, or a 1-100 choice?

Is this the same regardless of which type of media player/speaker you are using?
