Night Time Door Monitor

#1

1) Give a description of the problem
I would like to be able to monitor doors at night time in case my kids sleep walk and try to go outside.

2) What is the expected behavior?
I would like to turn on a lamp if they open the door between certain hours alerting my wife and I.

3) What is happening/not happening?
Everything works fine except I want to be able to somehow disable it for a short time incase the wife or myself are out late and come home during the hours the doors are monitored. I don’t want the lamp coming on if one of us comes home and the other is sleeping. I really don’t want to use a presence sensor but will if I have to.
I have a contact sensor on the garage door and could use that to either pause a piston or create a variable. I’m just wondering what would be the best way to go about it disabling the lamp from turning on for say 30-1 min if one of us comes home late?

First of all: Changes to open will only give you about 5 seconds before it resets. so if you don’t change the “with” action TCP to NEVER, it’ll just fail.

So either change it to door is open, or set the wait section to never cancel.

If you were to come home late, is there any other sensors that would activate in a different order than if a kid came from inside the house?

Like for example: Landing motion activates then front door opens: You assume it was opened from inside

No motion inside the house, Front door opens: You assume it’s from outside.

Yes I do have multiple motion sensors in the garage

I think you deleted your piston so I can’t build on it…

#5

You can add an Only When garage motion sensors have been inactive for 10 minutes to the bedlamp section

Do you know how to do that?

Sorry, I had paused the piston because I didn’t want it activating until I had fully tested it. I think this might work… there are times when I get up early and leave before 6 am… I’ll have to figure out how to alleviate that situation.

You can tie your phone to the piston via IFTTT to pause the piston until you leave the house. Then turn piston back on
