NOOB: HOWTO manually log, test a ST plug state & current device values?

First time with webCoRE and having issues connecting the dots… hoping someone can help as this seems like simple stuff that I’m just not getting.

(1) I see example pistons using the “Log to console” action… how are you getting this into the piston?
(2) I have a standard SmartThings plug that cycles power on / off to devices (called “Security Panel Power” in the screenshot below). What’s the correct way to test the on/off state of this device? I’ve tried the “power” & “$status” options, but can’t seem to test it correctly…

(3) In the right margin where I can see my devices, everything I’ve added shows blank or NaN… something doesn’t seem right… likely my error in adding devices in the SmartApp in the ST app…

Pointers?

When you log to console, try using Expression, then you can query the device attributes in the format [DeviceName:attribute] in your case you want [Security Panel Power:switch]

The NaN is the result of an attempt to fix the dashboard loading issue for some users, it might get rolled back to how it was before… not sure.

I think you misunderstood my question (or I’m not following your reply).

HOW do you log to the console? I select “Add a new statement” within a DO block and there’s no option to log. When I select ACTION, there’s no option…

Add a DO block, Add a Statement, Add an Action, Select a Device (Location is default if you just want to do something), then Add a Task, then Log to Console.
