So at first I thought it would work like vlcthing where it plays the audio notification. I guess what it does it queues up the notification and the end user asks Alexa to play the notification.

Notify Me uses Amazon’s official notifications system (the same one used to notify you of package deliveries and such).

At least notifications, unlike broadcasts/announcements, have a useful “message light” to let you know you have a notification in case you were out of the room when it arrived.
