Piston for Home Monitoring: Away

#1

1) Give a description of the problem
I am starting out to build my first complex (to me) piston. Right now I am not seeing my mobile device which I would like to use as presence sensor of some sort.

2) What is the expected behavior?
I want it to know when my phone is not at the location and then it can trigger if the certain event happens.

3) What is happening/not happening?
I cannot select my mobile device. It recognizes it as a presence sensor in ST but I have a very small list of things to choose from in webCoRE.

Ultimately what I would like to happen is while I am away and the door opens to send me a push notification. I figured this could happen all within the smartthings app since they give you an “armed home” and a “armed away” selection however there is no way that I have found to make “away” do something different. I may be wrong also.

I figured I could get this to work but I want to make sure it doesn’t do this while I am at home because that would become annoying.

I appreciate any help. Thank you!

Did you go to the webCoRE app and add your devices?

Good idea. I must have forgotten about this back when I initially set up the app. Can you help me understand what an actuator would be in the apps sense?

Actuators and sensors are the easiest way to get as many devices into a single spot as possible for 3rd party apps. If you can’t find your devices in either of those categories then go ahead and scroll down to find them in the other categories. Not essential to have your devices slotted into the most fitting categories.

I guess I was just trying to figure out the definition to be as lean as possible in the making process.

This seems difficult to me. I’m not really a coder and some of the language doesn’t make sense to me but I really want to get into this.
