Sanity check my fireplace controller?

#1

I have a gas fireplace that uses a simple continuity contact for control. It has a panel mount SPST switch and a RF remote for control.

I wired in a FortrezZ MIMOLite such that the input reads when the RF control relay closes and the MIMO relay is wired in parallel with the switch allowing either to turn the fireplace on.

I’ve put together a piston that does a few things:

  • If the RF remote controlled relay turns on the piston turns on the MIMO relay which turns on the fireplace
  • If the RF remote controlled relay turns off the piston turns off the MIMO relay which turns off the fireplace
  • If the switch stays on for more than 4 hours OR the motion sensor in the room is inactive for more than 1 hour OR the temp sensor in the room stays above 72F for 1 minute the piston turns off the MIMO relay and notifies me.

Did I wire this whole thing up correctly?

What kind of fireplace is it? I have a set of gas logs that also has an RF remote. I wonder if it has a simple switch on it somewhere too? My remote also has up and down arrows to control flame height, that might be a bit tougher…

It sure looks like your piston will work, but the proof is in the testing…

Where are you putting the MIMOLite so that it doesn’t get hot?

I’ll have to find the manual to figure out the specific model.

I ran a bundle of HVAC control wire into the firebox along side the 120V AC power run and used that to wire into the existing controller circuits. The MIMOLite then sits in the utility closet where the power and gas lines run into the firebox from.

I haven’t gotten around to actually cleaning up the wiring and mounting the MIMO box to the wall yet.
