Seeking conceptual assist: SHM management and front door lock integration

#1

My existing configuration was working fine until last week, so I figure this is a good opportunity to start from scratch.

Let me briefly describe the goals. On weekday/workdays, I want

  1. SHM to register as “Home - Disarmed” starting at 5am (easy enough, no piston needed)
This allows for such things as putting out garbage and recycling without triggering SHM.
I could enhance that by saying “If motion detected on foyer Bosch motion sensor after 5am, set SHM to Disarmed”.

  2. SHM to remain in that Disarmed state until both my wife and myself have left for the day.

  • For me, it will be a presence sensor that tells the system I’m gone.

  • For my wife, motion detection on a Bosch sensor in the foyer followed by the front door being manually unlocked and opened, and then being closed/locked… OR the back sliding door being opened and closed/locked, followed by no motion in the house.

I have a few thoughts, but am soliciting suggestions on best practices for such a thing. I also feel like the above ideas leave gaps in security, but I can’t quite identify them without going down a rabbit hole of escalation lol

get her a presence sensor and this will become immensely simplified. otherwise you will find the piston is either too broad or too narrow.

#3

Not that easy. She’s already thrown out one of them, and they don’t work consistently after a few weeks of new battery. I have the modded I2 AA cells and the sensor in a 4-AA case) one for myself, but she is resistant to that large a thing in her purse.

Does she have a smart phone? Install the webcore app on it and use that as the presence sensor

#5

Or even install the Smartthings app on her phone and add her as a user. We have three people in our house and this works just fine.

Had the ST app on her phone, and she rebelled at getting the notifications lol
And the phone is almost out of space anyway; there’s no room for another app at this time.

And even when she gets a new one, I’m leery of the webcore presence that had all the stuff about having to re-install instances etc.

That’s kinda why I asked in the first place. Lol
