Simple light piston, can't get it to work :(

1) Give a description of the problem
Hey guys, brand new to Webcore here. Been doing ok with the simple stuff, nighttime security lights on at night, turn off at midnight, etc. I’m having trouble with these new Globe Suite bulbs I bought from Costco. They are linked to Smartthings and I have no problem with the functionality through the ST app, but when I try to create this piston so that 2 of the bulbs come on at night, I can’t get it to work at all. They don’t turn on, won’t adjust color temp, etc…

2) What is the expected behaviour?
Trying to set something up whereas the lights come on at sunset +1hr, then set a color temp of 2800, then a brightness level of 70%. You’ll see in the screenshot/logs that I was messing with the time as the trigger so as to test the lights (Happens every day at 5:43PM when the time was a few mins before to test if they came on)

3) What is happening/not happening?
Nothing happens. They don’t even turn on.

When you are testing, you may be setting the trigger time to close to your actual time so it is going into a recovery and by the time it actually runs it is too late. I suggest first dragging the ‘with’ outside the ‘if’ and press test. See if on its own the commands work. If that works then put the with back inside the ‘if’ but put the trigger time at least 5 minutes I. The future and see if it triggers properly.

When you do a long ‘wait’ you should see in the logs that the piston has scheduled a timer for the end of the wait and exited. The wake-up from the wait will appear as a ‘time’ event in the logs. If that doesn’t appear and you see ‘recovery’ appearing a little later instead, it means the piston didn’t receive the timer event for some reason.

Lots of users were reporting issues with timers not being received yesterday, so I assume there were problems with SmartThings. You may just have got unlucky.

There are problems with any piston with a “wait” in it.
Frustrating when you waste time trying to get something to work and it is out of your control isn’t it.
Especially when you’re new to it and think you must be doing something wrong.
I wasted hours yesterday. Ugh.
Don’t know if it’s a WebCore issue or a Smartthings issue, but it’s still not right more than 24 hours later.

Yeah, I spent like 3 hours on Webcore last night trying to work it out and nothing I would do worked. I ran like 8 test runs and couldn’t get anything to work, but then (even more frustratingly) the lights came on and went deep blue and I can’t imagine why…it wouldn’t execute any of the other functions (changing color temp to 3200K and brightness to 70%).

That would be nice if it was a ST error and not a problem with what I was doing…although I was driving myself nuts yesterday lol. I will try it without the Wait function, the only reason I added that in there is because I didn’t know if all functions would execute correctly in quick succession…I’m still new to this so I’m tinkering with the system capabilities, wasn’t sure if I needed to pad the functions with a Wait time.

Sorry for the silly question but how do I drag the “Then” function outside of the “If?” In doing so, I would just be creating an instance where there is no trigger except for the “Test” button, right?

use the drag and drop feature. Turn it on here:

Then select the symbol along the left border and drag to the location desired. Very useful tool for editing pistons.

Yes, once you drag outside the ‘if’ the trigger will still be there but now ‘test’ will actually execute the commands instead of being blocked by the condition. Once you put everything back, it should trigger and execute as expected.
