Suspected Faulty V2 Hub

#1

Hi guys,

It’s looking like my SmartThings V2 Hub might be faulty. It’s been chewing through batteries recently and the frequency of having to replace the batteries had been increasing. I’m now at the point where batteries last a few hours so it would seem that it’s only running on battery. I’ve tested and replaced the 5v transformer which hasn’t helped so it seems to me that the power port on the hub is faulty.

As a result of the lack of ‘hub backup’ functionality, i’m not looking forward to having to manually configure a new hub again from
scratch (estimated 50-60 ‘things’ many of which are in awkward places).

I’m going to try and get the hub fixed with ST support, but failing that what would you recommend: New V2 hub / new (latest) hub / different vendor that works with WebCoRE (and hopefully offers a backup function) ?

As a side-note, if anyone knows of anything I can do (backup wise) to make setting up a new hub easier it would be appreciated.

Cheers

Replacing a hub isn’t easy. Samsung has been testing a migration utility for over a year and helped me last year with a failed hub. Most of my device definitions came over but you have to re-pair all your devices to the new hub. You may want to call support to see if they can assist.

Does it always run on battery? Why not remove them and get a small UPS?
