Trouble adding a device to Webcore

#1

After being away for a year, and relocating across the country, I’m finally able to start “re-build” my Smartthings HA. A lot has changed. I’ve migrated to the V3 hub and am essentially starting from scratch.

One big point of confusion I’m experiencing is that, in the new Smartthings app, Webcore shows up as Cast Iron. When I click to open, I get a message "Under construction. this will help you upgrade your engine block…blah blah blah.

The only option here is to “Save” and, if I do, it kicks me back to the main page for the smartapp.

My problem now is how do I add a device? I’ve added a open/close sensor in ST, and it works fine, but I have a short script in Webcore that I want to add but can’t seem to get there.

What am I missing?

TIA!

OK, something does not sound right. I am not sure what you have done so let’s start from the beginning:

  1. you should have installed 4 Smartapps (webcore, dashboard, Piston and storage) in IDE at https://account.smartthings.com . All would need to be published. WebCoRE would require OAuth to be enabled.

  2. in new app, click on the + in the upper right of the screen and choose smartapp, scroll to the bottom of the screen and open webcore. Go through the setup and enter a name for your instance and set your security password.

  3. next, go to the menu (3 bars in the upper left of the screen) and choose smartapps and open the instance of webCoRE you setup in #2 above.

  4. to select devices to use in webcore, open settings > available devices > available devices > under select devices by capability > go through group 1-3 to select your devices. Note: once you select and try to exit, you will get the cancel and discard Buttons which sounds totally confusing but don’t worry, your devices will still be selected and saved.

  5. go to https://dashboard.webcore.co to start creating pistons. You need to generate a register code by going to #3 above, open your instance and register code

  6. or you can install the ST Classic app to set up your webcore instances. All the current webcore setup instructions are written for the Classic app and will make better sense when following them.

Not sure if you will need to start over with your current setup with you seeing cast iron. Not exactly sure what steps you had taken of where you were when you saw that.

Your category was listed as Legacy CoRE which is the older and previous version before webCoRE. so just my opinion to anyone reading this post. Skip the old version of CoRE and install the newer webCoRE at this point.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for this very detailed and helpful instruction set!

I uninstalled the Webcore apps from the Smartthings app, then installed the classic app and went through the instructions, line by line, you provide here.

Having done so, I wound up with the same experience I had before, only this time I was able to add the missing devices.

It’s surprising how being away from this for a year is like starting over on the learning curve. Thank you for your help!!

Once again, @jkp is spot on!

(have you considered writing a similar page for our Wiki?)

Side Note:

Since this topic is about webCoRE, and not CoRE, I have edited the topic category to make it a bit easier for others to find.
