webCoRE Presence for HVAC Setting

I’ve created the piston below that uses ‘distance to home’ measurements to trigger changes to the Location Mode - and therefore the thermostat’s temperature setpoints.

Basically, I set up a home location, an ‘Away’ Circle and a ‘Vacation’ Circle. When the WC Sensors cross the appropriate lines, the mode should change by activating a virtual switch - which fires up another piston that actually changes the location mode and thermostat setpoints.

My question is this: Will the trigger in line 25 (and likewise in line 37) cause issues as written. I’m concerned about the ‘All… rise above’ part. I chose that instead of ‘are above’ so it only fires when the line is crossed. However, I’m concerned that there may be some timing issue when both don’t cross the line simultaneously (never happens). I can’t test this today due to the storm.

Thanks!

Although I haven’t used this criteria I don’t see why the ‘All’ portion would cause an issue. I’m pretty certain they don’t have to occur simultaneously. I have used other criteria with ‘All’, like all presence changes to Away, and it works fine even though mine and my wife’s phone presence change at different times.

Hope the storm doesn’t cause you any problems.

Thanks for the reply. That was my feeling when I wrote the piston too, but I always reevaluate things like this after I complete writing them. :grinning:

I’ll be testing this tonight to see how it goes. The storm has subsided now. 15” of snow overnight on Thursday but we get a lot of snow here and deal with it well. Roads are clear for the most part now.

Thanks again for your response.

Follow-up:

For whatever reason, the piston above did not work when we crossed the ‘Away’ geofence line last night with the trigger in line 25 as ‘All presence… rise above’. It may be that we blew through the geofence too fast (we were on the expressway), but I don’t know. Anyway, while away, I changed the piston for the way home. I’m now using ‘is between’, ‘is less than’ and ‘is greater than’ logic rather than ‘rises above’ and ‘falls below’. It now works!.

Here’s the updated piston (I won’t say ‘final’ because I doubt such a thing exists):
