Will SmartThings work for me?

#1

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this.

I’ve got a SmartThings hub and Philips hue bulbs and Alexa, and currently its only used to run really basic commands.

I’m looking at expanding with WebCORE and creating a fully smart home, however I has some questions.

  1. How much work is involved in getting ST to work with Philips hue and accessories, like the motion sensor?

  2. Will ST know if a bulb was turned off via something else, so if I ask Alexa to turn a light off, will ST know that the light is now off?

I look forward to your answers and if anyone has any ideas of things I should start off with in WebCORE I greatly appreciate the suggestions.

Thanks

  1. My Phillips hue integrated pretty easily. It’s been a year so I can’t remember exactly but I don’t believe it was difficult.

  2. SmartThings knows the state of all the devices it has included in the system

Its very easy to do what you are talking about. All of the instructions you will find in the tech area on SmartThings. I think you will be very happy with how easy it really is.

As far as getting started with WebCoRE, when I first started using it, I began by moving my more simple automations from SmartThings to WebCoRE. Once I was sure those were working, I migrated the rest. That gave me enough experience to start building more complex pistons. All of my automation is now done in WebCoRE and if something isn’t working quite right I usually know where to look. And if I can’t figure something out, I post a question to the community forum and someone there almost always points me in the right direction. The example pistons posted on the forum will also give you an idea as to some of the things others are doing with WebCoRE.
