Zigbee and Zwave Repeaters

#1

When I was on with ST TAC the other day I was told that when a device joins the zwave network it (often or always - I’m not real clear on that) connects through a zwave repeater, not directly to the hub) and is forever tied to that repeater. Zigbee grabs the closest every time they said.

The reason this is kind of important to me in this case is because I was adding a minmote from my PC with it on the desk in the basement which means when driving up to the house it has to reach all the way down to some random switch or plug in the basement. IE - Would decrease usable outdoor range.

Is this correct? Any Idea? THANKS!

THANKS! Great info / great answer. I’ve actually never run this and quite sure it would help as my device count has grown considerably. All of this was great info that everybody probably should know as I’m guessing others have never run it either and quite obviously a very good had keeping habit!

Again…great detailed answer…exactly what I needed to know!
