I don’t have ads on my iPhone. First time I see on ads overlay at the bottom of Safari too.

It does, but they rarely show - they’re only displayed by Google Adsense when they have something that matches - or so I understand.
They’re there to help pay for the costs associated with domains, hosting, storage, etc.

I had an ad trying to sell me tiles for my kitchen floor. The topic above was about smart tiles. Go figure.
