Jam Voice WiFi speaker with Alexa

#1

I came across the following WiFi speaker made by Jam. It’s a very reasonably priced speaker which comes with Alexa. Seeing as this is a WiFi speaker surely there must be a way to add this as a device to ST and hence then have the ability for sending text to speech commands using a piston to it?

Any help? I really want to get announcements working where using a piston I want to be able to play a message like welcome home etc.

So I got one of these speakers and got it working using the DLNA-PLAYER smartapp and device handler. However the voice isn’t very fluid and looking for a way to use an external TTS service?

There are many ways to approach this… but keep in mind that to have any advanced control over voice and sound effects, something has to be installed on the device that is handling the speech output.

Personally, I tweak my voice commands using one of these methods:

  • Android device connected to an external speaker (gives more TTS options)
  • PC connected to surround sound speakers (is better quality sound for me)

Here is the conversation highlighting the paths I took.

(For example, I am using the Australian female for most of my announcements, and a British male for weather announcements)
