Scotch inventory management

#1

I’ve posted this piston on the ST board and feels it might be useful here too.

I still need to optimize it per @bangali suggestions, but this version is fully working nonetheless.

Could be adapted for other alcohol, etc.

Edit : This piston can be very useful when you have teenagers at home  … I’m not there yet, but will be eventually!

#2

I’ve awarded you the ‘single Malt’ badge… seems appropriate lol :joy:

#3

Thanks mate, only badge one needs

#4

I thought the same thing @Robin.
Yes. This piston is so much yes

#5

How are you tracking what’s in each bottle?

#6

There’s a contact sensor on my Scotch cabinet. Each time I open the door, I get an SMS asking me which bottle I poured a glass from.

I can either answer the bottle number by SMS (using IFTTT) or follow on the link leading my to dashboard and press on the corresponding tile.

Either way, it’s removing 5% from the bottle… There’s usually 20 Glencairns per bottle. Sometime a bit more but when I reach 15% I usually make sure the bottle get empty real fast, like in the same night.

@Kebel871 we could easy waste a weekend on this topic

HP

#8

Absolutely!

#9

I need to give you more scotch badges!!

#10

Cool, I’ll buy a new bottle for every badges and start a Kickstarter campaign if I’m about to bankrupt

#11

Btw, for everyone who loves scotch, the best community is on Reddit (the best social media platform IMO)

Search for subreddits r/Scotch and r/Whiskyporn

They are to scotch what webcore is to HA

#12

I just don’t get this piston. Every time I get a bottle of single malt in the house it’s always empty, hic, so no point tracking it!
Quarter Cask and full speed ahead!

#13

He wrote the piston to get the single-malt badge… or did we make the badge for the piston??

My little brain hurts… too much scotch!!

#14

he wanted the badge.
and he certainly earned it.

#15

Pfff, quarter cask! Be a real man and drink Cask Strength :stuck_out_tongue:

#16

The piston came before the badge, but the latter was well worth the time it took to make the piston

#17

the badge came first, before users were even invited to join.
I know, I made it.
but it couldn’t be more fitting to award that badge for this piston

#18

I thought I remember seeing the piston on the old forum?

#19

I know the history of this great badge haha… My dry humour is lost on ya’ll

I also know that @Kebel871 created the scotch piston long before this forum was even dreamt about… so his piston definitely came first.

I asked him to post it on here because the previously unrelated badge looked very fitting!

#20

Well well. I stand corrected on the age of badge vs piston.

The best clarification I can provide, I did not create the badge having knowledge of the piston, BUT as I said, I couldn’t think of a better reason to give the badge to anyone when I saw the piston!!

In fact there’s another badge I awarded @Kebel871 last week, (Trailblazer) that’s very fitting due to the unique nature and use case of the project! As of right now he is the only user to have earned this badge and I suspect it’ll be a fairly exclusive badge!
