webCoRE Storage and Dashboard SmartApps, are they needed?

#1

I have been using webCoRE for the last 3 months or so and I originally only installed the main webCoRE and webCoRE Piston SmartApps into the SmartThings web UI. Dumb question, do I really need to install webCoRE Storage and Dashboard SmartApps? I have always got to the Dashboard via a browser. Not sure what Storage does.

I’m not an expert on the backend architecture, but I do know they are all part of a package. They don’t work without each other.

Also moved category to Meta.

My webCoRE has been running perfectly without Storage and Dashboard Smartapps installed as Smartapps.

@ady624 some light on this after you’re all citezened.

While they are not required, they are recommended.

The Storage app dramatically speeds up piston start up by moving the list of all devices off the parent app, making the parent app spin up much much faster.

The Dashboard app is used in connection with real time monitoring on devices in the initial Dashboard feature of the dashboard (I know - conflict of terms) and the soon to come visors. Without that, the visors won’t work - it has no other effect on webCoRE.

I’m very excited to see visors. I’ve only been using WebCoRE for about a week and I’ve already moved most of my automation to the platform.

Come across the term visors a few times now, what is it exactly? Is it essentialy a GUI of WebCoRE and ST devices? Is it something your building @ady624 ?
