Which device and web browser?

I have same problem on iPad Pro using mobile webcore app. I ed up doing screenshots and editing them befor posting

I found a workaround for iPad: long press the image, then drag it up into the web address bar (it doesn’t visually drag but the image dims, just release the touch over the web address bar). It will then load the image which you can long press to save. I can’t get anything to work on an iPhone with 3D Touch.

iPhones with 3D touch require a hard press to bring up the save dialogue (or used to at least)

Older iPhones (like my SE) you tap the snapshot once to load it in a new tab, then press and hold to get the save options.

Ah this does work in Safari, just not in Chrome (neither 3D Touch to save from webCoRE nor tapping the image then saving from a new tab). Does anyone know of a way to save the images in Chrome?

For some quick background on why this problem might exist… These are not classic image URLs (e.g. http://example.com/photo.jpg) but rather data URLs where the image data is contained in the URL (e.g. data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGg...). That’s great since webCoRE generates that image URL in the browser which allows screenshots to remain anonymous and private without getting uploaded anywhere automatically, but maybe iOS 11 changed how those URLs are handled in certain cases.
