Dashboard and dev just spinning?

#81

Well, there isn’t any code running between the “got storage app” and the first thing that the storage app should log so there must be something happening in a more magic way. I’m going to test a bit more locally to see what’s happening between those two lines, be back in a bit.

#82

thanks - appreciate the persistence - what a bizarre thing.

#83

At least it stopped snowing for awhile…

#84

You need a new avatar

#85

Heh I think the Richard Ayoade avatar is just fine

#86

Another update for you; grasping at straws a bit now but there was a bit of magic between those calls.

#87

just a storage update right?

Sigh :frowning:

Does that end up getting logged under the webCoRE app with the other lines or is it logged under the storage app (i.e. if you look outside of the All tab on live logging)?

#89

I haven’t seen the storage app come up in live logging yet so yes that’s under webcore

#90

Ok, before we go back to when the Storage app was disabled and see if anything else is broken, I figured out how to uninstall the storage app.

  1. Close any tabs open to the dashboard
  2. Click the pencil icon by your Storage app, you already know the Delete button doesn’t work
  3. In another tab, go to My Locations > smartapps > Edit (on the right above the list)
  4. The storage app is called webCoRE, nested under webCoRE. When you hover the tooltip will show webCore (webCoRE Storage). Use the red link to uninstall that child app.
  5. Flip back to the other tab and delete the smart app

It worked for me, you may need to try more than once since it might get reinstalled. You will now be running without the storage app, so things may be a bit slow but please take a moment to see what if anything is still broken.

#91

so…you figured it out in a round about way…

I was looking for the storage app as you described. There was one listed webcore but had nothing in the tooltip. Looking at my other instance I saw a much different view - sad the storage etc.

I decided to uninstall the mystery app which I assumed was the storage app but was broken. This has fixed the problem. I went back into and added all my devices and all is good.

Wow…no idea what happened here - seems something in the smartapp got corrupted?

Can’t thank you enough for all the help and sticking with it! Don’t think I would have found that without you!

Wow! Yes this seemed like something very out of the ordinary. I don’t know nearly enough about how all this works to speculate what might have happened though.

You can try reinstalling the storage app from ady’s repo

#93

back to using the original code and all seems ok - that was an interesting experience. Thanks again - hope I didn’t waste too much of your time although I know it was a lot!

#94

No time wasted at all, every opportunity to debug the code gets me closer to understanding how it all works. I was just about ready to meet up with you for lunch, though!

#95

I love a happy ending!!

Though it’s scary to think how close @JJsLegacy came to loosing all his pistons.

Let’s hope @ady624 settles into his new role quickly and can finalise the restore from file function… will give us all some comfort.

#96

ha anytime!

#97

I have granted you the coveted Ale Badge Sir… well deserved!!!

#98

Hurrah! I guess I should un-break my own dashboard now.

#99

Oh, also to confirm and because this thread is just so close to 100 replies: it doesn’t seem like there is actually a problem with contacts that have no name. I was able to get some errors but I think they were more likely a result of sloppy debugging or timing issues. I haven’t had any trouble with a phone-only contact running against the unmodified webCoRE release.

does that trigger a badge for @JJsLegacy?
