Response seem erratic. Mostly it’s wrong. It sometimes updates when the hub reboots. Did some searching on here and others are seeming the same erratic behavior. any other way to monitor power?

You can’t trust that attribute. I’ve had issues with it and others.
I suggest building a device using a Ecolink contact sensor, relay, and cheap DC power adapter. I built a custom DH for this also.
If your hub is on a battery backup and your home network is also on a battery backup, ST will still function and you can tell when the power is out.
